Steve Chance is a life-long sailor thanks to his childhood summers on Barnegat Bay at the Jersey Shore. Born outside of Philadelphia, Steve grew up on the Main Line of the Philadelphia suburbs. He learned to sail racing small boats on Barnegat Bay where his family had a summer home. He later took his love of sailing to off-shore racing and cruising from the Jersey Shore to Chesapeake Bay and then to Maine, Nova Scotia, Bermuda and the Caribbean. He and his wife returned to Barnegat Bay to introduce their daughter to sailing through a local sailing club, and he and his family have spent many summers at the Shore. Steve has now retired to power boating, but his daughter and her husband continue to be active in sailboat racing on Barnegat Bay.
Steve graduated from Wesleyan University and The London School of Economics, studying history and government, before going on to receive his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He has lived in England and Brazil and has traveled extensively both personally and professionally. From 1973 to 1984, Steve practiced law with the Philadelphia law firm Dechert LLP, where he assisted national and international businesses with complex corporate, merger and acquisition and international licensing transactions. From 1984 to 2004, Steve served as Vice President and General Counsel of Teleflex Incorporated, a diversified, manufacturing corporation with revenues of approximately $2.2 billion and facilities located throughout the world.
Steve has combined his love of sailing with his experience in the legal and business world to craft “Behind the Curve”, which paints the fictional story of the greed and hatreds of a dysfunctional family involved in a struggle for control of a major U.S. corporation and a politically motivated and violence-prone cult.
Steve and his wife live in the Philadelphia suburbs where he is currently in the private practice of law and working on his next novel.
